About Council of Alternative Systems of Medicines


Council of Alternative Systems of Medicines (CASM) is a professional organisation and the only institution of higher education in the India with a curriculum of integration of various medical modalities . Its mission is to implement academic programs that integrate instruction, research, and public service for integrative health care.

The Council is dedicated to bringing insight in encouraging individuals to take the initiative to employ preventive measures to alleviate illness, suffering, premature death, and chronic degenerative disease.

Council of Alternative Systems of Medicines incorporated with the Act XXVI of 1961,Govt. of West Bengal, India to achieve the following objectives :

  • To distinguish different Alternative systems of Medicines according to its own philosophy.
  • To spread the systems of medicines as far as possible through the medicines which will have no bad reaction and which are non poisonous.
  • To assess the qualities of different systems of medicines.
  • To stop the complexity and monopoly of the Medical treatment.
  • To make the treatment easily available to the mankind of all level.
  • To simplify the medical education and to help the poor derive its benefit.
  • To help the people of some education to make themselves independent after teaching them these Alternative Systems of Medicines.
  • To help the nation too arrive at the goal that in the 20th Century Health will be for all.
  • Democratising higher education by taking alternative medical education to the doorsteps of the students.
  • Providing access to high quality of education to all those who seek it, irrespective of age, region, or formal qualifications.
  • Offering need-based academic programs by giving professional and vocational orientation to the courses.
  • Promoting and developing alternative medical education worldwide.

 

Statement of Philosophy


Council of Alternative Systems of Medicines (CASM) firmly believes that any one in the World to be deserve the opportunity to receive the highest quality of health care, with the broadest range of care options. In keeping with this set of beliefs.

CASM is organized to educate and develop health care professionals, including those already in health care practice, to serve the public.

CASM envisions the creation of a health care system that is cost effective and meets the needs of our society.

As an independent institution, the CASM primarily relies on private resources, along with available government resources to offer programs which meet current and changing health care needs of society.

The learning community of the Council seeks to cultivate a renewed sense of purpose and leadership within each individual and to promote an enduring search for knowledge, influence and excellence in human and medical service.

Those who matriculate are required to demonstrate a broad understanding and competency in health care and maintain a commitment to intellectual development, medical practice, and scholarship in complementary, alternative and integrative medicine.

 

Education Strategy, Goals and Objectives


In line with its mission, CASM will:

1.Provide students with knowledge that is germane and necessary to their functioning as competent, integrative, alternative health care professionals.

2.Provide training in clinical procedures and diagnostic skills.

3.Evaluate its instructional and clinical experience programs using competency-based techniques.

CASM's goals are:

1.To increase the number of medical and health professionals knowledgeable and sufficiently skilled to integrate alternative with conventional therapies in health care professional practice.

2.To provide students the knowledge and skills necessary for the successful practice of the integrative health and medicine.

3.To prepare the students to participate fully in the health care profession by assuming leadership roles, teaching, a conducting research.

CASM's objectives are that students will:

1.Acquire the necessary knowledge to diagnose conditions of patients through an integrative interpretation of visible symptoms, biological data, and health assessments with standard medical diagnostic procedures.

2.Acquire the necessary skills to use integrative protocols in their practices.

Acquire the knowledge and skills to recognize the need for emergency treatment, to use integrative medical protocols in emergencies, and to decide when and ahere to refer patients to appropriate specialists or facilities.

3.Acquire the skills to conduct integrative medical research and apply its findings.

4.Acquire the skills to implement integrative therapies and testaments as indicated.

The Departments of studies

With a view of developing interdisciplinary studies, the council operates through Departments of studies. Each Department is headed by a director who arranges to plan, supervise, develop and organize its academic programs and courses in co-ordination with the department staff and the different academic, administrative and service wings of the council. The emphasis is on providing a wide choice of courses at different levels.

Academic Programs


The council offers programs leading to Diploma, Bachelor or Post-graduate. Most of these programs have been developed after an initial survey of the demand for such studies. They are launched with a view to fulfill the students need for:

 

  • certification
  • improvement of skills
  • acquisition of professional qualifications
  • continuing education and professional development at work place
  • self-enrichment
  • diversification of knowledge,etc.

Instructional systems

The council of Alternative Systems of Medicines (CASM) follows multi-media approach in imparting instruction to its learners. It comprises:

  • Self instructional printed course material packages.
  • Assignments for assessments and feed back.
  • Supporting audio-video programs
  • Face-to-face interaction with academic councilors at Study Centers

Course Material

Learning materials are prepared for the course by teams of experts drawn from conventional universities, medical institutions and professionals from all over the country and in-house faculty. These materials are edited by the content experts, and language experts at CASM before they are finally sent to the press. Printed course material is supplied to all students and their cost is covered in the program fee.

Government attestation

Ministry of External Affairs (Foreign Ministry), Government of India Attestation

CASM students can apply for attestation of their certificate completed with CASM by the Ministry of External Affairs (Foreign Ministry), Government of India for using them internationally.

Attestation is available for students who have completed the Diploma, Bachelor or Postgraduate programs.
